eZ 3.9.4 Released to eZ Network

eZ Publish 3.9.4 just got released to the eZ Network.

This release is mainly a security/bug fixes but does contain some noticable features. The major ones are:

Development (Keyword) bug causing articles to appear when you did not want them to.
Browsing content ignored the "hidden" view.

Update for November 2007

The month of November has seem various updates to the eZ Publish NOW environment. However these updates and fixes have been for developers and do not affect the Editor so have not been reported in detail.

So a good solid month for the eZ Publish Network.

eZ Publish 3.9.3 just got released to the eZ Network.

This release is mainly a security/bug fixes but does contain some noticable features. The major ones are:

Performance issues
Disable tipafriend fixed so it can be disabled on anonymous user
VAT rules by country are now fixed.

eZ 3.10 preperation needed if you follow site statistics

eZ Publish 3.10 will be with us in the eZ network in the next month or so. So it is time to do some preparation if you follow your site statistics. The reason is due to the way that eZ publish displays URLs.

Currently if your article had the title "my great article" the URL would have underscores added to it by eZ Publish so would look like be "my_great_article". Now, this is fine for us humans, but as it turns out Google does not like it. what it sees is "mygreatarticle" not so good and it lowers your search ratings.

To the rescue comes eZ 3.10 you can now change the underscore to a dash, so your URL will look like "my-great-article".
So why the problem with statistics?

This all has to do with how statistics packages record statistics, they are all tied to the URL. This means as soon as you make the change to replace the underscores with dashes ALL your pages that have spaces in the title will be reset. This is because your statistics package will see them as new pages.

For this reason we recommend you at the end of the month before you upgrade you do a year to date statistic capture. This will mean you can start fresh when the 'new' page URLs come on stream.

A note for Google Analytics users you will need to update your Goals for the changed URLs.

Image in online editor fix

The was an important fix for editors in the last week. This corrected an issue that has been in eZ Publish since the release of eZ Publish 3.92.

The images in the online editor were not displaying in the default install. This has now been fixed and deployed. So if you only saw paperclips where your images should be you and wondered why they came back. this is why.

What is the problem?

This is a real rarity a eZ security issue. There was a issue found in eZ Publish versions 3.8/3.9. This affected site are ones that use

Discount in eZ Shop
some advanced changes to the eZ Publish shop .

Will this affect me?

If you have an active eZ Network account then no. This was patched on Monday so you are safe.

If you do not have eZ Network and you use the eZ Shop then you might be at right and should get a check or just upgrade.

The eZ Publish 3.9.3 and 3.8.9 releases fix a security issue of high severity. These releases also fix several reported bugs.
Insufficient permission checking on views without a policy function defined Insufficient permission checking was done on module views that do not have a policy function defined. This could cause problems in modules where views with a policy function were mixed with views without a policy function. This flaw made the discount functionality in the shop module vulnerable. Sites where users have explicit permission to policies in the setup module could also be vulnerable.
All users using the discount functionality in the shop module or that have defined roles with explicit policies in the setup module are encourage to upgrade to the corresponding release. Also, users with sites containing views with and without policy functions in the same custom module are encouraged to upgrade to the corresponding release or to update their custom code so that every view has a policy function defined.

Online Editor Face-Lift

The online editor got a well overdue face lift today. The new look is a cleaner and less fiddly way of displaying the information.

Here is the new version

This what the old one looked like, as if it was not ingrained into editors minds.

I really like the new editor, it is easier to use and will allow of custom features to be added to the editor quickly and cleanly in the future.
